Self Liberation through Seeing with Naked Awareness: a Dzogchen Retreat with Lama Lena (Yeshe Katyup)

Thursday, Sep 9 - Sunday, Sep 12

this retreat has been moved online

This instruction on the method of self-liberation presents the essence of Dzogchen, the great Perfection, which is regarded in Tibet as the highest and most esoteric teaching of the Buddha. "Teachings for liberation in a single lifetime", the text that this retreat is based on, was written and concealed by Guru Padmasambhava in the eight century and rediscovered six centuries later by Karma Lingpa.

Lama Lena continues to teach on and work with this text for the benefit of all beings, and new and returning students. She will offer practices and instruction as per the needs of those in the retreat.

To work with this teaching one first needs transmission from a realized master in the form of an introduction to the state of presence and awareness (rigpa), which is the capacity of the nature of mind. This introduction is offered in retreat with Lama Lena and is a rare opportunity to receive instruction with time for practice and to ask questions.

Daily classes will be at 2pm (EST).

Please note that it is expected that participants will be able to attend all four sessions and that- to the best of their ability - people remain in retreat mode with practical silence, and a schedule of at least three or four sessions a day.

Lama Lena is a teacher of Direct Mind Perception and a lineage holder of several Tibetan Buddhist traditions. Her informal style is precise, direct and she is revered by students around the world for her exceptional ability to share profound teaching in a clear poetic and humorous way.

Beginning in 1972, Lama Lena spent three years studying with Lama Thubten Yeshe in Nepal. She then spent seven years in a small cave practice retreat above Tso Pema under the tutelage of her root teacher,Venerable Wangdor Rimpoche. She travelled extensively with him for many years as his translator and assistant.

At the request of H.E. Zigar Choktrul Rimpoche and Ven. Wangdor Rimpoche, as well as many Tibetan and Western Dharma students, she continues to travel and teach from the lineages she holds.

Lama Lena is sharing her experience within the traditional Buddhist understanding of Dana. To understand more about Dana, please read the following:

What is Dana? Teachers give the teachings of awakening (Dharma) freely so that anyone, no matter their financial means can attend classes. Each time one receives teachings, it is an opportunity to consciously practice generosity. Giving money and other means of support expresses gratitude and support to the teacher and helps to ensure that these teachings continue. Each person receiving Dharma teachings determines the kind and amount of Dāna according to one’s heart and one’s financial means. When deciding how much to offer, one should think about what these teachings mean to you and try to give accordingly. Dana can be given at the end of the retreat. To give Dana to Lama Lena please go to: https://lamalenateachings.com/give-dana/

This retreat is fully booked.
