Self Liberation through Seeing with Naked Awareness: Lama Lena - Fully Booked
with Lama Lena
August 2 - 7

This instruction on the method of self-liberation presents the essence of Dzogchen, the great Perfection, which is regarded in Tibet as the highest and most esoteric teaching of the Buddha. "Teachings for liberation in a single lifetime", the text that this retreat is based in, was written and concealed by Guru Padmasambhava in the eight century and rediscovered six centuries later by Karma Lingpa.

To work with this teaching one first needs transmission from a realized master in the form of an introduction to the state of presence and awareness (rigpa), which is the capacity of the nature of mind. This introduction is offered in retreat with Lama Lena and is a rare opportunity to receive instruction with time for practice and to ask questions.

Lama Lena is a teacher of Direct Mind Perception and a lineage holder of several Tibetan Buddhist traditions. Her informal style is precise, direct and she is revered by students around the world for her exceptional ability to share profound teaching in a clear, poetic and humorous way.

Beginning in 1972, Lama Lena spent three years studying with Lama Thubten Yeshe in Nepal. She then spent seven years in a small cave practice retreat above Tso Pema under the tutelage of her root teacher, Venerable Wangdor Rimpoche. She travelled extensively with him for many years as his translator and assistant.

At the request of H.E. Zigar Choktrul Rimpoche and Ven. Wangdor Rimpoche, as well as many Tibetan and Western Dharma students, she continues to travel and teach from the lineages she holds.

What is Dana?
Teachers give the teachings of awakening (Dharma) freely so that anyone, no matter their financial means can attend classes. Each time one receives teachings, it is an opportunity to consciously practice generosity. Giving money and other means of support expresses gratitude and support to the teacher and helps to ensure that these teachings continue. Each person receiving Dharma teachings determines the kind and amount of Dāna according to one’s heart and one’s financial means. When deciding how much to offer, one should think about what these teachings mean to you and try to give accordingly. It is recommended that students make an offering of dāna at the beginning of a class or retreat to establish the intention to make the most of this opportunity for one’s own progression and for the benefit of all others.
